Sesame Seed Cookies Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup sesame seeds, toasted (divided; if raw, see step 1)

  • 1 1/2 cups flour (all-purpose)

  • 1/2 cup whole wheat flour

  • 3/4 cup sugar (granulated)

  • 1/2 cup butter (softened)

  • 2 tablespoons water

  • 1 teaspoon baking powder

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

  • 1 egg

Instructions:

  1. Toast the Sesame Seeds: If using raw sesame seeds, toast them lightly in a large heavy skillet over medium heat until golden brown, shaking the skillet and stirring frequently to keep them moving. Remove from heat and set aside.

  2. Mix the Ingredients: In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, whole wheat flour, sugar, water, softened butter, baking powder, vanilla extract, salt, and egg. Beat until well blended.

  3. Add Sesame Seeds: Stir in 1/2 cup of the toasted sesame seeds.

  4. Shape the Cookies: Using about 2 teaspoons of dough for each cookie, shape the dough into ovals about 2 inches in length. Roll each oval in the remaining toasted sesame seeds.

  5. Prepare for Baking: Place the ovals about 1 inch apart on the prepared baking sheets.

  6. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for about 15 to 20 minutes, or until lightly browned.

  7. Cool and Store: Remove the cookies to wire racks to cool. Store the cookies in a tightly covered container.
