Honey Sesame Seed Candy: A Healthy Version

Honey sesame seed candy, is a traditional treat made from sesame seeds and sweeteners. While the classic versions often contain refined sugars and additives, a healthier approach using honey can enhance its nutritional value while still providing a delightful taste.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/3 cups honey

  • 3 cups toasted sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Toast the Sesame Seeds (if not pre-toasted)

    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

    • Spread the sesame seeds evenly on a sheet pan.

    • Toast in the preheated oven for about 10 minutes, checking at the five-minute mark. Remove once fragrant and golden brown.

  2. Prepare the Sheet Pan

    • Line a sheet pan with parchment paper for easy removal of the candy.

  3. Cook the Honey

    • In a medium-high heat saucepan, bring the honey to a boil.

  4. Add the Sesame Seeds

    • Stir in the toasted sesame seeds and bring to a second boil.

    • Continue stirring for approximately 1 minute until the mixture thickens and the seeds are well coated.

  5. Transfer the Mixture

    • Pour the honey and sesame seed mixture onto the prepared sheet pan.

  6. Shape the Candy

    • For bars: Spread the mixture evenly to create a flat layer. Allow to cool before cutting into bars.

    • For sesame balls: Let the mixture cool slightly until manageable (still warm but not hot). Roll into small balls or shape into logs. Alternatively, flatten and cut using a pizza knife or kitchen shears.

  7. Cool and Serve

    • Allow to cool completely before serving or storing. Enjoy your healthier sesame seed candy!
