You can easily grow lots of Basil for your garden by purchasing fresh stems rather than starter plants at a nursery, from the grocery store. Look for fresh cut stems generally in the produce or spice section of the market.

Remove a few leaves from the bottom sides of the stem and snip off the the end of the stem for a fresh cut. Place the stems in fresh water. Change the water every 3-4 days.

Once the plants form roots, you can then transplant them in directly in the soil or a container.

Basil makes a wonderful container plant.
