Growing Yellow & Zucchini Squash
Zucchini & Yellow Squash love well-drained, fertile soil that's been amended with lots of compost.
The seeds can be planted indoors about 2 weeks before the last frost date and then transplanted outside.
If direct sowing, plant seed outdoors when the soil temperature has reached 60°F—about a week after the last frost.
You want to give your squash a lot of room to spread out and grow. Plant them about 3 to 4 feet apart in rows 8 to 12 feet apart.
See the photo below of how big they can get.
Mulch around the plants. This will help the soil stay moist and disease free.
At minimum, two plants can grow enough zucchini for a family of four.
