How Deep Should You Plant Seeds?
The exact depth for planting seeds varies depending on the size and type of the seeds. Although seed packets provide a suggested depth, sometimes we save seeds from previous harvest or are given seeds by a friend. A general rule is to plant the seed, not more than twice the diameter or width of the seed. Planting seeds too deep, diminishes their chances of germination and can cause the seedling to be too weak.
Most seed require you to cover them with soil. Vegetable seeds that should not be covered with soil are, lettuce and dill seeds.
