Parmesan Cheese Crackers

Homemade crackers are easy to make, cost less than store bought without all the unhealthy artifical ingredients. Homemade crackers can be made with healthy fats such as olive oil, butter or seed butters.

Homemade crackers can be made to suit various dietary needs, like gluten-free, nut-free, or low-carb. This makes them available for everyone.

You can add seeds (sunfloer, sesame, chia or flax, flax), herbs, or nutritional yeast.

Cheese Crackers Recipe

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour, more as needed

  • 1/2 cup whole wheat white flour

  • 3/4 teaspoon salt

  • 1/8 teaspoon paprika

  • 1/8 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 1/2 cup finely grated fresh Parmesan cheese (Romano could also work well here)

  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened

  • 1/4 cup cream or half-and-half, more as needed

  • Celtic salt, pepper, sesame or poppy seeds (optional for sprinkling)

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, whole wheat white flour, salt, paprika, garlic powder, and Parmesan cheese.

  3. Add in the softened butter and mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  4. Stir in the cream or half-and-half gradually until the dough comes together. If the dough is too dry, add more cream as needed.

  5. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thickness.

  6. Cut the dough into desired shapes and place them on the prepared baking sheet.

  7. Sprinkle with Celtic salt, pepper, and seeds, if using.

  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until golden and crisp.

  9. Allow to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
